Moving out west: Mid-west style

Intro:
Being from New York, coastal style is pretty usual. East or west coast style is not uncommon, however, there is one style that seems to be getting increasingly more popular around here. Mid-west style is showing more and more on the streets of New York. Appreciation for handmade American goods, including, leathers, boots, chambray shirts, five-panels and even wallets. Menswear from the mid-west seems rugged but beautifully created. The concentration put into creating these American made pieces of art is overwhelming and inspirational. I'm going to help some of you get around in the mid-west by giving style suggestions and examples of beautifully made goods, straight from the American mid-west.

Mid-West Style:
The American mid-west has always sounded so nostalgic to me, partially because of all the Clint Eastwood movies I would watch with my grandfather. The frontier is still a world unknown for those of us who grew up on the east coast. The clothing is based off of modern work lifestyle and climate. First I'm going introduce my favorite piece of menswear, footwear.

Footwear:
Consisting of a multitude of styles, mid-west footwear is beautifully crafted and thoughtfully put together.

ALLEN EDMONDS DALTON WINGTIP BOOTS

WOLVERINE ICS WP CT

LUCCHEESE HANDMADE MENS COWBOY BOOT

CLARKS OAKWOOD SUEDE DESERT BOOT

Pants/Shirts:
Usually consisting of light durable denim and chambray, clothing in the mid-west was durable but light because of the heat. Most clothing has earth like colors and natural materials.

ELWOOD CARTIGO SHIRT

QUIET LIFE BERMUDA LONG SLEEVE

LEFT FIELD KUROKI MILLS GREASER JEANS

Outerwear:
The outerwear in the mid-west is essentially created with great quality. Thick fleece and durable jackets, because of the terrain, climate and outdoor work.

EDDIE BAUER SPORTING FLEECE JACKET

PATAGONIA HAWKE'S BAY JACKET

Accessories:
Hats, leather made belts and wallets. To keep the American made down to the T, i would suggest some of the leather accessories that are hand crafted by the men and women of the mid-west.

QUIET LIFE OXFORD-FIVE PANEL

ELWOOD OG BEANIE OLD GOLD

TANNER GOODS CLASSIC COGNAC BELT

CORTER CLASSIC LEATHER BIFOLD

STETSON VAN NESS HAT

Conclusion:
Classic high quality American made goods. That is what the mid-west is about, usually. When i see a beautifully crafted boot or belt it immediately makes me think of the American mid-west. The style is a mixture of country and urban styles. Mid-west city style and rural style are not usually that much different from each other, manufacturing speaking. Consider taking in some of the mid-west into your wardrobe and mixing it with your current style. The quality and down to earth colors give the mid-west style a natural appeal. Understanding other styles from other parts of the country, or even the world can help you find your style and the American mid-west is an essential try. Let me know if you have any favorite styles from different parts of the world and I would like to create an article on it.

White Denim: A great summer pant.

Intro:
Among all of the the pieces that signify that summer is here, white denim is the most essential. Some believe it can be a task to own a pair, however the pro's may persuade you otherwise. White denim is a great, affordable, way to express your summer style. Dress them up or down it's your choice.

Pros:
- The feel of summer is a direct connection to what your outfit consists of. (I mean who want's to wear a pea coat in the middle of July)

- White denim is just as easy to match with other pieces as white shirts.

- Most white denim is light! The fabric is usually lighter then normal denim pants, this comes in handy on those hot summer days.

- Uncomfortable with pants? It comes in shorts too!

-It's Affordable! White denim comes in all sorts of price ranges. The pair I have are Levi's and they were around $30.

Cons:
- Just like any other white garment, it get's dirty easily. (If a stain presents itself, immediately spray it with stain remover, then let sit. If this doesn't work DO NOT dry them. Turn around and bleach them.)

Looks:
EXPRESS WHITE DENIM

GUCCI WHITE DENIM

LEVI'S WHITE DENIM

Conclusion:
Wearing white denim has its perks and can easily be worn with almost any outfit. With different fitting, each pair is unique on its own. White denim is a great indication that summer is, in fact, here. Adjusting white denim to fit your style is simple and only requires that you invite one item into your closet this summer, white denim.

93 and Humid: How to survive hot summer weather.

Intro:

In New York right now it is hot and sticky. Nobody wants to go outside because nobody wants to feel like they are getting tossed around in a frying pan. Let's be honest, you have to go outside at some point, even if you are going from one AC to another. Now, the question still remains, what do you wear that is light enough to walk through the blistering heat, but is warm enough to not get too chilly in those AC blasted office rooms or coffee shops? This guide will help you get through the day and feel less likely to pass out from a heat stroke.

1. Keep it light.

Taking advantage of the breeze is essential in cooling off while you're on your way to work. Wear a light fabric that can easily allow air flow, almost creating a natural air conditioner for your body. Materials like denim and tweed are not ideal and will only help you sweat even more. Cotton, chambray, linen and polyester are great materials to help you cool down.

LINEN PANTS

COTTON SHIRT

POLYESTER SHORTS

CHAMBRAY SHIRT

2. Keep it bright.

Color is the key to staying cool. Wearing bright colors can effectively cool you down by reflecting the suns rays. There is a reason why black and brown are considered "warm" colors. They don't only give off the feeling visually but physically as well. Baby blue, light gray, yellow and of course, white, are all great colors to look for next time you decide to go summer shopping.

3. Keep it simple.

When deciding what to wear, don't go overboard. Watching people layer in this heat makes even me sweat. If you want to get through the day without sweating up a storm, try to keep the outfit simple. This doesn't mean it has to look basic or tasteless, just create something with almost nothing. Cotton pants with a polyester shirt, slim silk tie, light thin belt and a nice pair of loafers are all you need. If you are looking to add on then i would suggest a light cotton waistcoat or cotton blazer.

Conclusion:

Now that you have an idea of what to wear on these dreadfully hot summer days, you can walk down the street with a less likely chance that you will pass out and possibly go for a walk in the park. These have helped me get through the hottest of days and still keep me cool. If you have any other outfit ideas for these gruesome heat waves i would love to hear them.

A little intro.

Consider this,

I walk down midtown Manhattan to go to my college that is specifically made for fashion majors. The classes are spread all throughout midtown and it feels as if i'm walking to work, not class. The feeling is extraordinary, the sight is incredible and the sound of diversity echos through the skyscrapers. However, there is still one thing untouched by the likes of my colleges 94:6 female to male ratio. Menswear. Suits, oxfords, trousers, ties, watches and all the way down to cuff links, menswear is a passion just as much as women's clothing, however there is one missing piece to this puzzle. Why is menswear of less importance than women's. Why are only women the ones to consider when speaking of accessorizing or fitting, respectively. Men should not be afraid to ask questions about fashion, nor should they be subject to compliance with a trend or statement. Men should be assisted in finding their style and not be afraid to touch they're fashionable sense. This blog will help you learn and open up to menswear from all different aspects. Discover new elements and dive into a new world of style.
